WFDSS NextGen 2025 Release Update
March 2025
WFDSS NextGen development is in the final stage ahead of becoming the system of record. The next 3 weeks will be exciting as we wrap up feature development for the first release (1.0). The code lock for the 1.0 release has begun and over the next 3 weeks the WFMRD&A will be engaging in robust testing, supporting training and course content development, as well as inviting users to participate in application testing and providing feedback, all in preparation of the full transition to WFDSS NextGen on March 26th.
The current operational version of WFDSS will be maintained in its current state of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) with no Development Modernization or Enhancements (DME) taking place. Only patching and necessary technical upgrades and changes necessary to comply with CIO policy and hosting environment requirements have been occurring as we continue to prepare for WFDSS Classic's archiving.
WFDSS NextGen EDU (Training) is now available for user training. While all the features have not made their way to the training environment they will be soon.
It is important to note that some features that were intended to be in the 1.0 release had to be pushed out in order to make the March 26th deadline. Namely Multiple Approvers and system validation of required elements of the decision have had to be pushed to the 1.1 release which is slated for end of April or Mid-May depending on o development cadence. Other often used features in Classic that won't be included in the 1.0 release that will be released in FY2025 include: FARSITE, FlamMap, MTT, the ability to copy an analysis, User and System Notifications, and Incident History
NOTE: As we approach production launch for 1.0 EDU will need to be tested extensively. Thank you in advance for your patience as we work out the kinks and if you have the bandwidth, please contact us to assist in testing and stabilization activities.
We want to hear from you.

Frequently Asked Questions

At this time, only those users with existing Geographic Area Editor (GAE) roles in WFDSS Classic have been granted roles to start exploring in the Testing environment. As more functionality becomes available and GAE feedback is incorporated, users desiring Editor or Analyst roles will be invited to request access.

-
Set your Geographic Area and Agency pair in the GAE tab of your profile. When the system is ready for further role testing, GAEs will be responsible and provided with instructions on how to approve Editor and Analyst roles, much like in the WFDSS Classic workflow.
-
This is a Testing environment similar to WFDSS Classic Training – actions taken in the UAT will not have any consequences to the decisions related to actual fires. It (probably) can’t be broken.
-
Take note of functionality that is not intuitive or language that is confusing and provide feedback to the Next Gen team.

-
This environment is in active development with the potential for daily changes, including full system resets. Not all functionality is available at this time and many of the issues you may encounter are known and in process.
